to destroy an enemy's city and kill its people is a poor victory
Friday, 2 October 2026 11:47 amDeWitte:
a few weeks ago, the PSE went to go sell some ceramics at the Farmer's Market in the touristy part of town.
as the PSE stood there at her booth, watching the busy pedestrian traffic amble by, she saw a familiar heavyset body come rolling past on his motorcycle.
Harley Davidson leathers, Yamaha bike.
the PSE shouted “DeWitte!!!” and a few minutes later our old tenant / friend / former colleague parked and came around the block to chit-chat.
DeWitte is a former colleague because almost exactlly a year ago he got fired from the Public Defender's office for pulling a gun on some Paralegal.
the PSE was eager to hear how he's been getting along since then, and DeWitte did not disappoint.
DeWitte cashed out his pension and he's been pissing through it.
the last time i saw him he was buying expensive trick Yo-Yos.
after that apparently he bought a tattoo machine and he's been giving junk tattoos to junkie people.
he showed the PSE a selection of his work, and they were all awful.
he's also been hanging out with a lot of junkie girls, one of whom stole his car for a several weeks.
but DeWitte has plans to get a gang of gangsters to go after her and either beat her up or force her into prostitution.
DeWitte told the PSE all this with absolutely no embarrassment or shame. if anything i think he was trying to seem cool.
the PSE just stood there, listening to DeWitte talk, aghast.
the PSE is pretty sure that his presence at her ceramics table cost her customers.
Doughnuts:
i got a call from my old friend Doughnuts one work day a few weeks ago while i was at work.
Doughnuts and i hadn't spoken since he came out to hike the mountain with me back in mid-July and i wasn't sure our friendship survived.
not necessarily because i said or did anything wrong, though after several hours i was pretty critical of his Business Success Cult, and, by extension, his entire stupid worldview.
moreso because i revealed myself to be a big fatso who needed to stop every thousand feet to rest for a half hour climbing up up up up up the mountain, and it took us, like, seven hours when it takes most normal people three.
there was a part of me that thought Doughnuts might be disgusted by my shameful performance and he would want to move on to cultivate a friendship that would be more beneficial for his spiritual journal, or whateverthefuck.
but here he was, calling me all the same, and i answered because even though i think Doughnuts is ridiculous, i like ridiculous friends, Obviously.
Doughnuts told me that after two months in China, his Chinese Wife and his Chinese Kids have come back to resume their lives with him in Miami.
he also told me that on the day they returned, they had a Welcome Back party at Doughnuts' parents' condo and his mother had a fall, cracked her old lady noggin on a table and had a brain bleed.
she was in the hospital for a few days, with Doughnuts' father staying by her side the entire time.
she was released after some time, but Doughnuts says there is maybe some cognitive decline.
Doughnuts said that she's operating at around 80% capacity.
which is enough, she doesn't have much to do, but still, that's fucking scary.
also of note, Doughnuts said that he hired a Business Consultant, at significant cost, to sit down and help his real estate development company come up with a Mission Statement.
why does a Real Estate Development Company need a Mission Statement? and why isn't it just “try to make more money!!!”
because Doughnuts is a Business Success Asshole, that's why.
Doughnuts told me that this high-priced Business Consultant sat down with Doughnuts and his Business Partner, [there are only two guys in this company, plus two other contract Filipinos who work remote for $1,000 a month,] and talked to them about what they want their Mission Statement to be.
Doughnuts' input was 'No Fatties!'
which is funny but also, in his heart, he absolutely meant it.
the High Priced Business Consultant put all his powers to work and eventually came up with 'Sustainable High Performance' which, at its core, is just a way of saying 'no fatties' without exposing yourself to a lawsuit.
i wonder how much he billed Doughnuts for that?
Lindsay:
i sent a text to my old, old, old, old girlfriend Lindsay a little while ago.
i haven't talked to her in some time, which i assume means that things are going pretty good on her end.
usually she reaches out when she needs a friend.
but i like Lindsay and i wanted to remind her that i exist.
also, because Lindsay lives outside of Boston, and she is a Woman Of A Certain Age, i wanted to talk to her about that lady in Massachusetts who was in the news lately for killing all of her kids.
i only just learned about this lady and i wanted to dig into it and i figured Lindsay might have something worthwhile to say.
from what i can tell on the internet, the world is divided along gender lines, with an alarming number of women coming out to support this child murderess, and an equal number of reactionary men, 4chan-types, lining up to condemn her, and her supporters, because hating women is important to them.
my thinking is that you've got to be pretty crazy to kill your kids and, accordingly, were i on the Jury, i would vote Not Guilty.
generally, i am against the punitive aims of the criminal justice system. i do not think we should be in the business of retribution, even for baby-killing.
i'm a rehabilitation kind of guy. send this baby-killer to the nuttery.
Lindsay agreed that killing your kids does seem like a pretty batty thing to do, but she guessed were she on the Jury she would probably vote to convict.
Lindsay has always been a bit of a pick-me girl.
i think her boyfriend is some kind of a Joe Rogan guy.
Melissa:
my old friend Melissa called and texted and sent an e-mail on my birthday.
if emojis were worth spending money she would have given me enough to buy a new pair of Jordans.
i answered to say 'i'll call you some other time!' and then, the following weekend, i set aside some time to do so.
not because i wanted to. because i had to. friendship is obligation.
my first question for Melissa was 'are you living indoors?'
the last update i had on Melissa was when she came out to house-sit back in May.
when we dropped her off at the airport, she was flying back to Providence to move into an apartment that her boyfriend procured for her as a way to break up more easily.
he was sick and tired of having to support her, so he moved her into the in-law suite of a house that his friend owned.
he paid the first month's rent which was maybe $2,000, but Melissa would be on the hook to pay the subsequent months.
there is no way that she would be able to do that, so i just assumed that she would be a homeless person now.
not the first of my friends to be homeless, likely not the last.
to my happy surprise Melissa said that she was still living in the same housing situation, though only just barely.
she hasn't paid September's rent yet.
she said that she still gets work picking up shifts as a Substitute CNA, filling in at Nursing Homes to wipe convalescent's asses when the other, regular ass-wipers need a day off.
but in the past three weeks she's had four eight-hour shifts, and that's not enough to get by.
how is she going to pay her rent? her utilities? her car insurance? her phone?
lol who knows!?!
Melissa told me that she is still screwing around with her boyfriend who broke up with her back in May.
this is not surprising.
they're still fucking from time to time, but it is largely utilitarian on his part, and Melissa is not reaping any financial or logistical advantage from the arrangement.
it's the worst of both worlds because apparently he isn't even very good at the sex.
i asked if Melissa had heard anything about her child that got taken away from her when it was five.
she told me that the kid is twelve now, in the seventh grade, and apparently, taking all Honors classes.
well that is very surprising!
Melissa said that she assumed that was because of her, and the stability that she provided for her for her first five years.
you would think Melissa is being funny or ironic, but she meant that in all seriousness.
maybe if she ever gets access to her kid back, her seventh grad honor's student can explain the literary convention of irony.
no. that's not going to happen. Melissa isn't going to ever get access to her kid back.
Anthony:
last week Anthony sent me a text with a link to a GoFundMe page that he'd created.
apparently Anthony has discovered cyber-panhandling.
https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-anthonys-fight-against-brain-cancer-a9vn9
i don't know what Anthony expects me to do with that link, it was sent without comment, but i am not planing on engaging with it.
i think the thing about GoFundMes is that you have to have a social network to plug into, and i do not have that.
and even if i did, it would be embarrassing for me to make Anthony anybody else's problem.
besides, if Anthony wants to catch any fish, he should really be playing up the brain tumor and the AIDS of his situation and focusing so much less on how he is the victim of a narcissistic mother.
he just comes across as fucking crazy.
